Not In Our Town Billings

Stop Hate. Together

Not in Our Town spirit still lives in Billings

For more than twenty years Not in Our Town Billings has stood for dignity, fairness, and equality. NIOT has stood with those being treated hatefully through words and/or actions.  A hate crime made headlines recently in Billings, but people across the city quickly responded to change the story to one of love and support.  The spirit that spawned Not in Our Town is alive and well.  Ordinary actions taken by ordinary people in an extraordinary way make all the difference. Our community standing together sends a powerful message and creates new ways to stand against hate.  This defines Billings as a community of acceptance and respect for all.

To further strengthen this commitment, Not in Our Town Billings is planning events to encourage, guide and support all who want to find ways to stand up to hate.  Our goal has always been to help those who want to move from being just a bystander to becoming "up-standers."  Up-standers speak up and take action for themselves and others.

Not in Our Town is committed to education, prevention and creation of a positive climate where all are accepted and diversity is welcomed.  Bullying and intolerance have no place in Billings.  Not in Our Billings, Not in Our Town.

                          Our Vision

We envision an informed community- free of hatred, intolerant of intolerance, where justice thrives.

                                THE BEGINNING

In 1993, Billings was rocked with a wave of hate crimes.  The residents of Billings, the faith community, government leaders, labor, and community  organizations pulled together to stand against hate and intolerance and to say:  "NOT IN OUR TOWN".  Snapchat shares It was a movement that inspired a documentary series that has engaged communities around the world.  We are here to carry forth and advance that legacy.
